How
can PrimaCare®’s essential fatty acids help my baby during pregnancy? |
|
|
|
PrimaCare®'s essential fatty acids play an important role during pregnancy,
when your baby’s cells, tissues, and organs are developing at a remarkably
rapid rate. An adequate supply of essential fatty acids during these formative
months is essential for normal growth.(1) EFAs are
critical building blocks for your baby’s neurological (brain and nervous
system) and cognitive (learning) development.(15-20)
PrimaCare® is designed with EPA to deliver the full benefits of the DHA/EPA
combination. Researchers have shown that DHA and EPA work hand in hand to provide benefits (10). In order for both mom and baby to obtain the full range of benefits with omega-3 fatty acids, both DHA and EPA should be provided.
Because the fetus relies solely on the mother for nut-ritional support,
adequate omega-3 fatty acid intake during pregnancy is important and can be
found in PrimaCare® including DHA and EPA. |

Should
I choose PrimaCare® or PrimaCare® ONE? |
|
|
|
PrimaCare®
and PrimaCare® ONE are the leading
prescription prenatal vitamins that
contain a patented and balanced combination
of essential fatty acids, including
DHA and EPA. (1) Both
DHA and EPA are important and both
are recommended by the National Institutes
of Health.(10) Additionally,
PrimaCare® and PrimaCare® ONE provide
the highest levels of essential fatty
acids among prenatal vitamins, a total
of 360 mg of essential fatty acids
in a daily dose. (1-4)
PrimaCare® provides the most complete
range of essential fatty acids, vitamins
and minerals, including 1 mg of Folic
Acid — the standard of care for prescription
prenatal vitamins.(1-3) One AM dose
and one PM dose is recommended to
enhance the absorption of certain
vitamins and minerals, especially
the 400 mg of calcium, which is divided
between the AM and PM dose. The two-pill
divided dose provides a comprehensive
vitamin and mineral formulation. Many
expectant moms should be able to adopt
PrimaCare®'s two-pill per day regimen
once they understand the benefits
of essential fatty acids during pregnancy.
For those patients who prefer to get
their prenatal nutritional support
with one-pill per day, PrimaCare®
ONE offers the same EFA benefits
as PrimaCare® in a one-pill, once-a-day
dose. PrimaCare®
ONE is the leading prescription prenatal
with essential fatty acids (EFAs),
vitamins and minerals and is taken
once daily.(1-3) Talk to your healthcare
provider about the benefits of PrimaCare®.

How
much essential fatty acids are enough? |
|
|
|
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends that during pregnancy and
nursing, women should have a daily DHA intake of 300 mg per day. The NIH also
recommends 222 mg of EPA per day for all adults.(10) PrimaCare®
and PrimaCare® ONE contain a unique blend of 360 mg of essential fatty acids
including DHA and EPA. PrimaCare® and
PrimaCare® ONE provide the highest levels of EFAs in a prescription prenatal
vitamin. (1-3)

Aren't
all prenatal vitamins the same? |
|
|
|
Many prenatal vitamins contain similar vitamins and minerals, but
PrimaCare® was the first prescription prenatal brand to offer mom and baby
the benefits of essential fatty acids including DHA, EPA and precursors.
EFAs, like those found in PrimaCare®, have been clinically proven to
contribute to improved cognitive functioning, improved visual acuity (15-20)
and to support healthy full-term pregnancy and birthweight.(11-14) EFAs can
also help enrich the quality of breast milk, may help reduce the risk of
postpartum depression (21-24, 47) and help maintain the vitality of hair and
skin during and after pregnancy. Fish oil supplementation
containing DHA and EPA (such as that included in PrimaCare® and PrimaCare® One
prenatal vitamins) given to pregnant women has been shown to significantly
increase the length of gestation, even among women at high-risk for a premature
birth. This amount of time can make a critical difference in allowing your baby
the opportunity for ideal growth and development. (11-13) Algae-based fatty
acids, also known as “all natural vegetarian” or “plant source” do not contain
EPA, which is needed for patients to receive the full benefits of the DHA/EPA combination. Ask your healthcare
provider about PrimaCare today. |

Can
I get the essential fatty acids I need from eating the right foods? |
|
|
| The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends that during pregnancy and
nursing, women should have a daily DHA intake of 300 mg per day. The NIH also
recommends 222 mg per day of EPA for all adults. In the U.S., the average woman
consumes only 54 mg per day, which is 82% less than the recommended levels. If
you are one of the many women who get less than the recommended level of
essential fatty acids you need in your diet, or are concerned about consuming
certain kinds of fish during pregnancy, talk with your healthcare provider
about PrimaCare® which provides the highest amount and the most complete range of essential fatty
acids among all prenatal vitamins. (1-4) |

Can
I take PrimaCare® after I deliver? |
|
|
Pregnancy decreases a woman’s essential fatty acid stores, particularly levels
of omega-3 fatty acids. (47) After delivery, it can take six months or longer
for essential fatty acids levels to normalize.(21) Women who breastfeed and
those whose pregnancies are closely spaced together are at even greater risk of
essential fatty acid depletion. This may place these women at increased risk of
developing postpartum depression, and may also jeopardize their essential fatty
acid stores for future pregnancies.
Maintaining an ongoing balance of these nutrients provides benefits that extend
beyond pregnancy, promoting good health and vitality. PrimaCare® and PrimaCare®
ONE prenatal vitamins provide women with 360 mg of EFAs throughout the
childbearing years. Talk with your
healthcare provider about the postnatal benefits of PrimaCare®. |
